Screwed

I just saw a fascinating talk on BookTV on CSPAN given by Thom Hartmann, author of the book Screwed: The Undeclared War Against the Middle Class — And What We Can Do About It. He talked a lot about the history of the middle class, about conservatives and progressives and how many of the laws put into the place in the last 20-30 years are essentially causing the middle class to wither and die. Fascinating stuff. I plan to get the book and read it as soon as I can. Oh – and he suggested this site: World Can’t Wait, which I haven’t had a chance to look through yet, but which also looks very interesting. Check it out.

Busy Bee

I’ve been so busy lately. My parents came to visit for a week, and my cat is sick. He’s going in for a procedure next week, and hopefully it will clear up a lot of his problems. The siding is finally finished, but… there’s a bit more that needs to be done. I need to find the money for it. I haven’t been writing much; instead, I’ve been spending a lot of time on the business and trying to make a little money. I’m running out. :( Oh, and I was in a wedding. And I applied for the MFA program at Seton Hill.

Fire and Ice – the war between USSR and Finland

I’m watching a documentary on PBS called “Fire and Ice” about the “Winter War”, a war between the USSR and Finland in 1940. Wow. I never learned anything about this in school. Or if I did, it was a paragraph so short I don’t remember a thing about it.

LKH – One of the best

Laurell K. Hamilton is one of my favorite authors. I’m currently reading Seduced by Moonlight and enjoying it a lot. I first discovered her books with A Kiss of Shadows, which led me to try the Anita Blake series. That was 2002, and since then I’ve been trying to string the books out, not read them too fast, save them and savor them, each and every one. So I’m up to Seduced by Moonlight in the Merry Gentry books and Cerulean Sins in the Anita Blake series. Catching up, but as slowly as I can stand it. ;) Every so often, I just break down and have to read one.
