I just heard about my MFA application - and I got in! I’m so excited. And so soon… the deadline was like a week and a half ago; I didn’t expect to hear the results so quickly! Anyway, there’s still stuff to figure out - the financial aid and getting registered and all of that. But the hardest part is done. I’m in!

I just saw a fascinating talk on BookTV on CSPAN given by Thom Hartmann, author of the book Screwed: The Undeclared War Against the Middle Class — And What We Can Do About It
. He talked a lot about the history of the middle class, about conservatives and progressives and how many of the laws put into the place in the last 20-30 years are essentially causing the middle class to wither and die. Fascinating stuff. I plan to get the book and read it as soon as I can. Oh - and he suggested this site: World Can’t Wait, which I haven’t had a chance to look through yet, but which also looks very interesting. Check it out.

I don’t think I’ve talked much about my application to Seton Hill. I discovered the Seton Hill Writing Popular Fiction program a few months ago and spent several months trying to decide if I wanted to do it or not and finally decided yes! It’ll be difficult, but I’m willing to do it because I believe it will help me tremendously with my writing.

My darling cat is at the vet for the next week. He’s been there since Wednesday, and I miss him! He was diagnosed with hyperthyroidism, and we tried giving him the pills, but he was allergic, so that pretty much left radio-iodine therapy as the only viable option. It’s pretty much painless and works really well, the only problem with it is that my cat has to stay at the vet for 10 days. Aaahhhh! It can’t end soon enough. I want my cat back now!!
